Issue

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X PC crashes and reboots when entering or exiting sleep / hibernate mode. In some cases during sleep, fans start blasting at full speed while the PC is unresponsive. Windows crash reports point to amdppm.sys driver.

Resolution

The issue was resolved by disabling the amdppm.sys driver. This can be done via the following registry change:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AmdPPM
• Set the value of start to 4 (default is 3).
• Reboot the PC
