Can’t connect to VPN – A connection to the remote computer could not be established

Issue

After moving to a different WiFi network, a user can no longer connect to L2TP/IPsec VPN using built-in Windows 10 VPN client. It looks like connection gets established, but instead of saying “Connected”, the following error message is displayed:

Can't connect to VPN

Can’t connect to VPN
A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, I had to remove/uninstalled all WAN Miniport adapters from the Device Manager. After clicking the “Scan for hardware changes” button, all adapters are re-installed automatically. No reboot or re-adding VPN config was necessary.
