Can’t open DELL iDRAC Virtual Console in Google Chrome

DELL iDRAC Virtual Console Preview

Was having issues trying to launch DELL PowerEdge iDRAC v6 Virtual Console in Google Chrome.

Instead of opening Java based remote access client, Chrome would simply try to save a file called someting like:
viewer.jnlp(82.157.215.60@0@idrac-YT877TM,+PowerEdge+T310,+User-demo-user@9584712254699

Workaround is actually very simple:

  • Save the file to the desktop
  • Rename it removing everything after viewer.jnlp
  • Double click the file to open

Providing you have Java installed, this should launch the iDRAC remote access client.

The file will only work for certain period of time, if you need to re-connect to the server later, simply complete the same steps again.
