Issue
Users on QuickBooks 2014 can no longer open company files in multi-user mode. Following error is displayed then trying to enable multi-user: “H202 – You’re trying to work with a company file located on another computer, and this copy of QuickBooks can’t reach the server on that computer“
Resolution
QuickBooks company files were hosted on a Windows Small Business Server that had QuickBooks Database Server Manager installed in order to manage multi-user access. The issue was caused by QBCFMonitorService service being stopped. Restarting the service fixed the issue. Another service that needs to run on a server in order for multi-user access to work is QuickBooksDB24. Number after DB needs to match version of QuickBooks installed on client PCs. In this particular case 24 refers to QuickBooks 2014.
