If you change SATA Operation Mode in computer BIOS after Windows OS installation, you will most likely get a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) next time Windows boots.
To prevent this, you need to make sure the first boot after SATA Mode change is done in Safe Mode.
- Start > Run type msconfig and press Enter
- Change to Boot tab and under Boot option select Safe Mode and Minimal
- Clock OK and restart computer
- Now go into BIOS change the SATA Operation Mode from RAID to AHCI
- Let Windows boot into Safe Mode
- Start > Run type msconfig and press Enter
- Change to Boot tab and under Boot option clear checkbox next to Safe Mode
- Reboot computer
